Our history is steeped in the technology of the day, to better process business, to reduce

RLI employs sophisticated electronic record and bookkeeping equipment, and extensively
uses random access microfilm equipment.

The company installs a new Honeywell 2015 computer system and its attendant CRT access units. |
1981 |
RLI begins departmental use of microcomputers for corporate planning, recordkeeping and word processing. |
1984 |
Implementing automated claims reporting systems virtually eliminates resource-consuming
paperwork in the processing side of our lens insurance business.

The company responds to a demand for tools to automate eye doctor practices with the
RLI Practice Automation System.

1988 |
The company improves computer operations by linking our branch offices with our headquarters. |
1989 |
RLI's expert system for personal umbrella policies is so advanced that it gives an
agent immediate response on whether we will accept an application.

1990 |
The company begins installation of new computer systems for processing both property and
casualty and ophthalmic business.
Acquires state-of-the-art AS/400 midrange platform to prepare
for migration from Honeywell.

Our underwriters utilize a Stanford University-developed earthquake underwriting
software system.
Document imaging allows home office and field claim personnel to view documents simultaneously,
which speeds claim processing for the customer while it also saves time and expense for the company.

Internet-based system that offers policy issuance and delivery
to producers within minutes of binding, setting a new industry
standard.

RLIs Internet-based processing systems handle $319.1 million in gross premiums
while business partner solutions produce $92.9 million.
Releases a document management system in claims that
organizes and categorizes all documents, images, audio and video
files for easy and simultaneous retrieval. Passes 2004's
hurricane season with flying colors. |
