Think and Change
Healthy and profitable organizations must address problems using
new and unconventional approaches. Since organizations are composed
of people, this means each of us is charged with solving business
issues in new and more productive ways.
Thus, at RLI we must invest time and energy in new ways of
developing, producing, and distributing information and our
services. To accomplish these objectives, we need those who will
take (well-thought-out) risk, who are intuitive, and have conceptual
skills. Behavior that produces inventions, innovations, and
unexpected outcomes is priceless in the new millennium.
We all solve problems. We couldn’t survive if we didn’t. Day to day
we make decisions and put issues behind us in our daily life. It’s
part of living. Look at your assets. Your house is more than likely
different from most and you probably wear a combination of clothing
that is not exactly duplicated elsewhere.
Further, each of us has our own problem-solving style. The question
is not how creative are you in solving problems, but how are you
creative? Your style, your ability, and your creativity are what
make RLI successful. Innovation is a journey without end. It is the
stuff the future is made of.
So, let’s give our customers more than they bargain for. Some of
those "outrageous ideas" may work. There is a way to speed cycle
time. We can close our books in three days. We can deliver policies
the same day—the Internet offers all kinds of creative solutions. It
is possible to automate almost everything we do—the old-fashioned
way is out.
Think and change. This is the key to tomorrow’s success.
